DMS Youth Orchestra 2025-26

Durham Music Youth Orchestra is a fantastic opportunity to play in a high-level musical group and is open to string players of Grade 5 standard and above and to wind/brass players of Grade 6 and above. We are also looking for percussionists who can read orchestral percussion parts.  
We have a very exciting new year ahead of us with Durham Music Youth Orchestra and I hope you will all be able to join us?  

The orchestra will meet on Saturday mornings fortnightly 9.30 -12.30 at Framwellgate School Durham.

The first part of the rehearsal will be strings only 9:30-11:30 and the 2nd half will be full orchestra. This will allow for players who already play in Durham Music County Wind Band to play in both groups. 

9.30 am - 12.30 pm.

Durham Music is delighted to subsidise DMYO so participation is FREE for all musicians.

Rehearsals Spring and Summer term 2026 are: 10/01, 24/01, 07/02, 14/03, 28/03, 25/04, 09/05, 16/05, 13/06, 27/06

N.B. You only need to sign up once per academic year for music groups, not every session

Momentum - Brass Festival Durham 2026

Momentum: a collaborative project with the NASUWT Brass Band and DMS brass students from Durham Johnston School, St Margaret's and Thornhill Primary Schools. Students and members of the NASUWT Brass Band have worked collaboratively in workshops, playing together a wide variety of original and traditional music in anticipation of the event at the Locomotion Museum.
Durham City Orchestra and Durham Stars End of Year Concert

Durham Music City Orchestra and Durham Stars Orchestra will be performing an informal sharing concert for parents/carers. Rehearsal at 4p.m. - Parents/carers please arrive at 4.35p.m for concert to begin at 4.40p.m.
DMS Weardale and Teesdale Flute Stars 2026-27

A fun group for pupils in Years 5 and 6 who already receive small group recorder lessons in school. Come along and transfer your skills to flute. A fun way to learn a new instrument, make new friends and take part in a music group all at the same time!
Durham Music Youth & Training Choirs - Summer Leavers' Soiree

An hour-long concert by the Youth and Training Choirs, featuring performances by our Youth Choir leavers.

Aycliffe Rocks is a group for anyone interested in playing rock and pop music led by a professional musician/tutor. We aim to have a number of performances in prestigious venues across the year to celebrate the talent of our young people. It is available to anyone who plays drums, guitar, bass, keyboards and vocals covering a wide range of styles.

WE NEED YOU - To continue to develop Youth Voice within DMS, we are recruiting Secondary pupils aged 11-18 to be part of our current Youth Committee. We are looking for pupils across the county who feel they can make a contribution to DMS by being part of this group that will be working alongside staff to share their thoughts and ideas on how we can provide the best service for them.
